Vitalik Buterin Says His Praise For BitTorrent Had Nothing to Do With Tron

In yet again another verbal clash between Tron’s Justing Sun and Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin, the latter has completely refuted Sun’s claims regarding Buterin’s obsession with BitTorrent.

Most recently, the founder of TRON, Justin Sun, said that he doesn’t understand why is Buterin “so obsessed with BitTorrent.” What seemingly provoked his curiosity, however, was a video of Ethereum’s co-founder aired in August 2017 – more than one and a half years ago.

“My Praise For BitTorrent had Nothing to Do With Tron”

As it’s always the case, Buterin was quick to respond to Sun, outlining that the interview he cited was from a long time ago, almost one year before Sun actually acquired BitTorrent.

Speaking on the matter, Buterin tweeted:

That interview was from Aug 2017. Tron acquired bittorrent in Jul 2018. My praise for bittorrent had nothing to do with Tron. This is like implying that because I like avocados, I approve of everyone who has ever bought an avocado.

The Battle of the Avocados

What seems like an argument which should have probably never happened, actually escalated.

Responding to Ethereum’s co-founder, Sun was quick to say the following:

We all love avocados. I acquired all avocado farms and reached to monopoly. Now if you still love avocados you have to listen to me. However, I am happy to give you free avocados for sure!

Naturally, the response triggered a lot of responses, with many users prompting Buterin to have a go at it. And so he did.

Reigniting a very old feud, Buterin simply quoted himself from a long time ago:

8. Better white paper writing capability (Ctrl+C + Ctrl+V much higher efficiency than keyboard typing new content).

The above refers to a previous argument between the two when Sun was trying to outline why Tron is actually better than Ethereum. He put down exactly seven points which led him to this conclusion:

Why #TRON is better than #ETH: 1. 10000TPS vs. 25TPS 2. zero fee vs. high fee 3. consistent Coinburn vs. no coinburn 4. Java vs. Solidity 5. strong extensibility vs. no ex. 6. 1 billion USD developers rewards vs. no plan 7. 100 million users vs. small number #TRX $TRX

The eight point, however, was added by Buterin, as seen above.

Slightly amusing feuds aside, recent data from Dapp Review shows that the number of decentralized applications run on the TRON network has been soaring.

The numbers show between January 8th and February 6th, the number of DApps on TRON’s network has increased by about 239 percent.

At the same time, however, a researcher at infoSec, Anthony Sassano, has argued that people have largely misplaced their attention when it comes to Ethereum. According to him, even without scale, the network has managed to deliver a lot of very successful dApps, including MakerDAO.

The latter has managed issue as much as $200 million in loans in its very first year on the market. This is just $50 million shy of the amount issued by the Lending Club – one of the most well-known traditional personal loan companies.
