China’s New Crypto Rankings: EOS Retains Its Top Position

Chinese Center for Information and Industry Development (CCID), a first-class scientific research institution backed by China’s Ministry for Industry and Information Technology, has recently updated its cryptocurrency rankings list. In this list, EOS has taken the top position, remaining the favorite cryptocurrency since June of last year. It is followed by Tron (TRX), Ethereum (ETH), Steem (STEEM) and Ontology (ONT).

The CCID wrote:

“The results show that the world’s three major Dapp platforms —EOS, Tron, and Ethereum — remain ranked in the top three, [and] the scores are 148.5, 144.1 and 136.6.”

The rankings list is based on the index that assessed each of 35 blockchains on three criteria: technology, application, and innovation. This is the 12th assessment to take place. Earlier, the rating of cryptos was made on a monthly basis, but starting from this month, it will be updated once in two months.

Further, CCID stated:

“The result of this assessment will allow the CCID group to provide better technical consulting services for government agencies, business enterprises, research institutes, and technology developers.”

It is notable that EOS has been maintaining its top position since June 2018. Earlier, Ethereum, that makes efficient use of smart contracts while processing all the information in a decentralized manner, got the top spot in the rankings.

In November 2018, in the sixth rankings update, EOS was also the top crypto, putting Ethereum on the second place. At that time, the analysts at the CCID explained:

“At present, EOS and Ethereum are undoubtedly the preferred platforms for Dapp development worldwide, and EOS is showing a stronger momentum. The data shows that EOS Dapp is highly active and user increments are large.”

EOS focuses on critical pain-points of blockchain and attempts to solve the problem of speed, scalability, and flexibility that often become a bottleneck for such blockchain-based systems. For that reason, EOS, designed to empower communities to create the next era of disruptive organizations, is number one on the list again.

Bitcoin Left Behind

It is worth pointing out that Bitcoin, known as the number one crypto, has never been the top currency in China’s rankings list. Despite its dominance in the crypto industry overall, Bitcoin is only 12th on the rating, scored well for creativity.

Previously, it was at the 15th position. In May 2018, Bitcoin got the highest score due to its advantage of being the first digital currency on the market powered by a completely decentralized blockchain network. However, because of a very limited application, it was ranked 13th.

In August 2018, Bitcoin held 10th place and then felt to 16th in September. In October, the Global Public Blockchain Technology Assessment Index placed Bitcoin on the 19th position.

Despite the results of the assessment, the crypto community stays positive about Bitcoin and believes in its growth. Let us also remind that the third Bitcoin halving is expected to take place in May 2020 and most people in the community confident that the price of BTC will soar from now until the event takes place.
