John McAfee, the controversial tech and crypto spokesman, says he’s creating a new cryptocurrency he’s dubbed the “Freedom” coin.

The All-New “McAfee Coin?”

Its full name is the “McAfee Freedom Coin.” It’s slated to be introduced in the fall of 2019, according to the digital security creator’s latest Twitter thread. In a recent message, McAfee issued a statement regarding some of the details and properties of the coin:

No, it is not mined. No, we are not doing an [initial coin offering] ICO. No, we are not looking for investors. No, we will not be listed on an exchange. No, we will give no more information before release of whitepaper. Yes, this is real… Also, there will be no airdrops.

Hm, let’s see. No ICO, no mining, no airdrops… This doesn’t sound much like a cryptocurrency at all. In fact, judging from first glance, McAfee may as well be describing a new form of fiat that has never been utilized.

Still, the security mogul claims that the currency is real, and that plans are underway for its creation. He also states that the coin’s mission is to give every user complete “economic freedom.”

This sounds a bit like crypto. After all, bitcoin and other digital assets were built to give users who didn’t boast access to worthwhile credit or other financial tools an opportunity to garner the funds they need to purchase everyday goods and services. Maybe McAfee has his head in the right place…

McAfee has also released a one-page description of the coin prior to the release of its whitepaper just to give crypto fans a little something to discuss and chat about prior to its introduction at the end of the year:

This McAfee Freedom Coin is designed to confront the problem of exchange head-on, using a unique paradigm and a new structural concept. It is not based on any commodity, nor is it connected to the value or behavior of any external item or entity. The value of the coin will always be zero in relation to any other currency, yet it’s natural market value is free, completely, to grow.

No Stranger to Crypto

McAfee has been at the center of the crypto space for some time given his bullish sentiment towards bitcoin and other forms of crypto. McAfee has often claimed that bitcoin would reach $1 million in the coming years, putting predictions from the likes of Tim Draper to “shame.”

In addition, McAfee has also recently announced his plans to run for president in 2020. Though he doesn’t expect to win, he’s hoping his campaign will open people’s eyes to the allegedly corrupt methodologies being followed by members of the United States’ government and inspire people to take necessary action.
