Gamers Anticipate New Need for Speed as EA Website Launches Live Countdown

There seems to be big news coming from the gaming industry as a surprising and curious countdown page is now live on the official website of video game maker, Electronic Arts (EA). The countdown is slowly rolling by the second and is placed on the Need For Speed section of the website, suggesting that the big reveal might be a new version of the popular racing game.

New NFS Game?

At this time, no one is absolutely sure what EA is planning but the countdown has turned quite a few heads so far, especially the big gamers. In May, the website had some news about the new NFS edition, specifically mentioning that the game will be 25 years this year, and also suggesting that there are plans for the 26th.

The company wrote:

“This year is a bit of a special one for NFS, too, as we are turning 25 years. We’ve had almost 25 years going fast, and we can’t wait to kick-start our 26th with the next NFS game.”

The announcement further confirms a new game to be released this year. Even though it did not specify, it mentions that the plans for a new game might not come with the usual hype that has followed previous editions.

“Are you going to hear more about the next NFS title? Yes. Is it being released this year? Yes. Will we be doing anything in June? No. It’s as simple as that, but we wanted to give you a heads up before you started asking “where are you?” Our goal is to deliver a truly memorable high-speed entry into the 25 years of NFS, rather than a series of promotional events. The game matters most – a sentiment we bet you share with us.”

In recent times, game aficionados and critics have not been very excited about the franchise. Specifically, the 2015 Need for Speed and also 2017’s Need for Speed: Payback weren’t very well received as many thought the game place was surprisingly dull. It is generally hoped that the new game would be a significant improvement over previous editions.

There also is a possibility that this is a major reason why EA Sports chose not to run all kinds of promotions, advertisements and marketing strategies for a long time before the reveal. If there was recorded disappointment from the last two editions, then it does make some sense that EA might not want to build too high an expectation in the period leading up to the release. When expectations are exceedingly high, they can be very difficult to satisfy.

The countdown is expected to end at 10 am EST on Wednesday, hopefully with an official launch of a new Need for Speed.
