J.K. Rowling Asks for Help with Bitcoin

It’s funny that someone who’s so rich wouldn’t know anything about bitcoin or cryptocurrency, but that seems to be the case for bestselling author J.K. Rowling, who’s won multiple awards and garnered worldwide fame for her Harry Potter book series.

J.K. Rowling Doesn’t Understand Bitcoin

Rowling has a net worth of approximately $1 billion, which means she’s a wealthy person. The author has sold more than 500 million books across the world, primarily from her Harry Potter series. These books transformed the lives of children and have spawned a franchise unseen by virtually any other series. Thus far, Harry Potter has spawned a Broadway musical, several films, additional books and even an amusement park.

But Rowling really held everyone’s interest when she took to Twitter to ask her followers to explain to her what bitcoin is. Apparently, someone who’s obviously successful and made quite a bit of money over the years can have no idea how the cryptocurrency works, what it does, or how it’s even come to be. The funny thing is that many people rushed to give her a solid answer… Including SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Musk is one of the most unique figures in the crypto world in that he’s had a great amount of influence yet doesn’t really seem to do much within the space. While we all know who Musk is (and many people seem to respect his opinion, for some reason), Musk, when you think about it, really hasn’t done much involving cryptocurrency. He hasn’t taken a huge stance for or against bitcoin, yet he always seems to be there, ready to stick his two cents in about it whether those two cents are appreciated or not.

Many people were thrilled when it was announced that Musk would potentially be the new CEO of Dogecoin, a competitor of bitcoin that initially started out as a joke but became one of the largest cryptocurrencies out there with a net worth of approximately $1 billion – just like Rowling herself. However, this all turned out be just a rumor, and thus far, it’s not even clear if Musk trades Dogecoin or not.

In addition, he has repeatedly swarmed Twitter with “cryptic” messages about bitcoin, claiming it’s “not his safe word” and that he’s ultimately “neither here nor there” on it. If he doesn’t care, why is he always so ready and willing to step into the bitcoin circle?

Can Elon Musk Explain It?

In his explanation to the author, he stated that bitcoin looked “solid” when compared with central banks, which he spent much of his answer taking aim at. It’s clear he’s not a fan of standard banking institutions.

Following a bombardment of responses, Rowling quickly issued a tweet saying she was no longer interested in the idea of bitcoin and didn’t want to hear anymore.
