Meta Launches VR Subscription Service Quest+

Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ: META) has announced the launch of a new service called Meta Quest+. Basically, it is a subscription service that is supposed to bring users’ VR experience to a new level, allowing them to ‘browse less and play more’.

With Meta Quest+, users can get access to two new titles every month, without the need to search through Meta’s enormous catalog. On the first of each month, users will get these titles to redeem, enjoy, and master, and if they keep subscribed, the value will be accumulated, as the users can keep all the titles and add new ones, growing their libraries.

The first titles picked by Meta are FPS Pistol Whip – a physical action-rhythm game from Cloudhead Games – and nostalgia-fueled VR game-within-a-game Pixel Ripped 1995 from ARVORE Immersive Experiences. Next, in August, the titles suggested by Meta will include Mighty Coconut’s Walkabout Mini Golf and MOTHERGUNSHIP: FORGE from Terrible Posture Games.

The price for the subscription service is $7.99 per month or $59.99 per year. Until July 31, Meta has a limited offer of only $1 for the subscription for the first month.

Meta stated:

“Subscription services have been a great way to get more bang for your buck as far back as the Blockbuster days. And at a monthly value of up to $60 USD, Meta Quest+ combines affordability with the convenience of a curated experience. We’re excited to give gamers on Meta Quest a new way to explore all their headsets have to offer.”

Meta Quest+ is already available on the Meta Quest Store. The service is compatible with Quest 2 and Quest Pro headsets. Once the Quest 3 will launch this fall, Meta Quest+ will add support for it as well.

Meta’s Ups and Downs

In its AI and VR efforts, Meta is competing with Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL) which has recently revealed its mixed reality Vision Pro headset as well as Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) whose Xbox Game Pass offers the largest library of over 100 high-quality games, with new titles added all the time, for only $9.99 per month.

In April, Reality Labs, Meta’s research and development unit that focuses on augmented and virtual reality, announced its first-quarter financial results, reporting a loss of as much as $4 billion for the first three months of this year. The profit generated by Reality Labs totaled $339 million.

Meta has sold nearly 20 million Quest headsets so far, which is impressive, but the company continues to struggle with keeping customers using VR and AR products. The team is quite optimistic about its future, and as Mark Zuckerberg recently revealed, Meta has been experiencing “incredible breakthroughs” in its use of generative artificial intelligence (AI). According to Zuckerberg, different organizations across diverse fields have started adopting AI in the latest developments. And Meta will continue its work towards making numerous AI capabilities accessible to people.
